Clydeside Distillery

The Clydeside Distillery is located on Queen’s Dock, which is also known as Stobcross Dock, a historic dock built in 1872 and christened by Queen Victoria herself in 1877. More specifically, the distillery is housed in the old pumphouse. This former pumphouse was used to open and close a hydraulic swing bridge that was a feat of technological prowess when it was built. It turns out John Morrison played a key role in building this bridge with his firm Morrison & Mason. A generation later, his descendants became whisky pioneers.

The founding fathers

Whisky is a family affair with the Morrisons. This passion-filled story began in 1925 with Stanley P. Morrison, who made a habit of making great deals in the world of malts. His name is linked to the development of famed distilleries such as A.D. Rattray, Chivas, Bowmore and Glen Garioch. He passed the torch on to his sons, Tim and Brian, after rigorous apprenticeships during which they immersed themselves in the Dalmore distillery.  Together they purchased the Auchentoshan distillery. Tim also acquired A.D. Rattray, bringing it back into the family fold with a series of exclusive bottlings. In 2017, Tim Morrison launched The Clydeside Distillery to produce whisky using traditional techniques passed down from generation to generation and whose secrets he had gleaned.  The distillery is also committed to strong environmental principles: distillation waste is recycled and used to power the national gas grid.
