Nestled in the heart of Speyside, one of Scotland’s most iconic whisky regions, the Tamdhu distillery carries on a centuries-old tradition centered around 100% maturation in Oloroso sherry casks. Unlike many distilleries that use these casks only for finishing, Tamdhu ages its entire production in these exceptional barrels, ensuring unmatched complexity and aromatic depth.
The oak used for these casks is harvested after 150 to 200 years of growth, then prepared over six years through a meticulous process of drying and toasting. The cask composition relies on two types of wood: European red oak, which imparts intense notes of dried fruits and spices, and American white oak, which softens the profile with lighter, vanilla-like aromas.
Committed to sustainable resource management, the distillery works exclusively with responsible partners and ensures the replanting of the oaks used for its casks, safeguarding the longevity of its legacy. Each Tamdhu whisky is the result of this patience and dedication, offering single malts of rare intensity.
